Week 2 in Chihuahua - December 18, 2017

Okay, so another week down. My Spanish is improving but it still is really hard  because I have to think about everything I want to say before I say anything and it is just really tiring. Sometimes I just wanna talk and my companion told me that he wants to talk in English every time we our in our house for him to practice and I was like hahah nah man I need to practice!!

Well, the highlight of this week is I had my first baptism! It was way cool. Her name is Rosa Maria Giner Lopez. She is awesome. I was worried about her because she has had an addiction to coffee but she managed to quit which was way cool.

It was such a cool experience. I felt the spirit very strong after. I had to memorize this: Habiendo sido comisionado por jesucristo yo te bautizo en el nombre del padre y del hijo y del espritu santo amen and her name.

I can't remember if I talked about this in my last email but some of the houses here are so poor it blows my mind. It is really a humbling experience to walk into a house with a dirt floor and like blankets and cardboard for walls and 5 people living in one room. It really makes me feel grateful for my house.

I'm not gonna lie, I was a little home sick the other day because the water broke in our apartment and was spraying out everywhere and my companion was trying to explain to me what to do in Spanish and I couldn't understand. But I'm all good I promise and I'm just way excited to talk to you guys and skype on Christmas.

Other than that not too much has happened this week.

les amo mucho

Week 1 in Chihuahua ---- December 11, 2017

Ok so this week has been a rollercoaster.

When I first got to my place I went inside and honestly wanted to cry. There was trash everywhere and it smelt horrible and I saw a cockroach and ants and was like nooooo.

But it is all good because we spent probably 3 and a half hours cleaning it and now its decent.

Another hard thing for this week is my Spanish. I learned that I can't speak or understand it haha.

We visited this members house and my companion was talking to the dad who spoke really fast and kind of had a slur when he spoke. And my companion asked if he could use the bathroom and as he was walking there he turned around mouthed to me that I should try to speak to him. So I'm like whatever and I said I like your Christmas decorations in Espanol, and this guy went off and started talking for like 8 minutes to me.

I didn't understand a single word. He asked me like 4 questions and I just said, "Si" to all of them, haha. Oh man that was funny.

Another thing is I had no idea how many dogs and cats there would be here. There is like billions.

There is this members house that has like 5 dogs and 5 cats and is always really warm inside. It is my favorite place to visit!

Yeah, it snowed here probably like an inch. It is reallllllly cold.

We had one tiny little heater to heat our house that does nothing haha. Then some other missionaries came over to the house to sleep because Elder Oaks was coming to Chihuahua, but I'll get into that in a second. The other missionaries took our broken heater and said sometimes it will work if you punch it so one missionary was just banging this heater and punching it so much and nothing was happening. Then his companion came over and said, "Con amor" which means "with love" and then touched the heater gently and it turned on, it was really funny.

But yeah, Elder Oaks came to Chihuahua for a couple days to talk to the missionaries and whoever wanted to come hear him. I got to shake his hand twice which was pretty cool. He's a really cool guy.

One thing that I learned from him that I want to share is that when we are praying with real intent, it doesn't just mean that we are praying with a really bad desire to know an answer to a question or something like that. It also means that we are praying with a commitment that we will do whatever the answer to our pray instructs us to do. I just thought that was interesting.

Oh also the snow storm just wrecked everyone in Chihuahua. There was a bunch of crashes out, hot water froze so we only had cold water and had to go out to our boiler and poor boiling water from the stove onto it. It was an absolute mess but we got it working.

And after the snow storm there was like a ton less dogs and cats running around. I honestly think that so many of them died from the cold except for the ones that had homes. Everyday when I walk by this one house this little dog runs from under a car and attacks me, it's pretty funny.

Also I found Elder Templeton!! It was really nice to see a familiar face. He seems to be doing really good. We were able to talk and catch up for a while which was fun.

Wow a lot has happened this week lol. I feel like my Spanish is getting a lot better in just a week. I can follow what people say sometimes and I can say about as much as a 4 year old but it's all good.

I love you all! hasta luego

Day 1 in Chihuahua ---- I Made It Safe! - December 4, 2017

Wow!  I made it to Chihuahua.

Today was crazy. I got about an hour and a half of sleep and my travel leader that I went to airport with did not speak English.

I slept the entire plane ride hahah. Anyway, I arrived in Chihuahua and the mission president picked me up and we went to his house for some breakfast. His wife made an awesome breakfast with hot chocolate and their whole house is decked out in Christmas decorations. It honestly felt like home.

After we ate they brought us to our house and let us take like a 3 hour nap. Then I went to the chapel and met my companion. He is awesome! He speaks very little English but he has a very energetic personality. We spent the rest of the day going around talking to people handing out cards and trying to set up appointments for later. He had me talk a good amount which was an interesting experience. There are a lot of dogs here and actually a lot of nice places that are wealthy and a lot of places that are very poor.

Anyway, that's really all I have for today. Can't wait to see how this week goes.
