Week 82 in Chihuahua - June 29, 2019 - Definitely Not a Coincidence!

Hi Everyone,

Wow, where do I begin?!!  So our mission President, President Montoya and Sister Montoya left the other day.  There were a lot of tears.  We made them a good bye video of all the missionaries and they loved it!  I loved them both and it was hard to see them go.

But, our new president is awesome too and he and his wife are from Florida.  He served a Spanish speaking mission when he was younger and so his Spanish isn't too bad, but his wife doesn't speak any Spanish and I feel really sorry for her!  She definitely seems lost in our meetings when we are all speaking Spanish.  But, they are both super cool and super nice and it will be great working with them.

I'm not sure I'll be in Chihuahua much longer as we should have changes soon, but we'll see.

So, Yalina and her family were baptized and the mom said they are so content and love church and love the people so much!!!  We will confirm them tomorrow.

Cool story for you.  So, I have never once in my entire mission, taken my phone charging cord with me anywhere, because I don't need it.  Just recently we went to another district and I grabbed my phone charging cord just in case....first time I've put it in my pack.

So, a couple of days before Yalina was baptized, we were trying to call her and we couldn't get a hold of her no matter what time we called, so we went over to her house.  She was home and said that her phone charging cord broke and her phone was dead and she couldn't even tell some of her family members because she didn't know their phone numbers. They were all plugged into her cell phone!

I told her I just happened to have a phone charging cord in my pack, but I didn't think it was the size that she needed.  Sure enough, it fit her phone, so I gave it to her to keep.  She was so happy and to think that it was the first time I've ever put my phone charging cord in my pack. It is so cool how the Lord helps in small ways that can really help a person so much.  It was a cool experience.

It has been interesting being the assistant to the President.  There were some sister missionaries who missed their bus and they were all packed and ready to go and called me and wanted me to buy them tickets for the next bus ride out, but that bus would have been leaving later at night and they would have arrived at their new apartment after their curfew.  I told them I wouldn't do it.  They were both upset with me because they really didn't want to unpack to stay another night, but I wouldn't budge.  I told them I had to follow the rules and how bad would I feel if something happened to them because I allowed them to arrive later than they should have?  I've had a few requests like that, where I've had to say no.

The pictures are of President Montoya's last day, and Yalina and her family's baptism.

Have a great week everyone!

Love, Elder Lignell
